Happy Birthday To Wynonna Root, My Beloved Familiar
Happy 2nd birthday to my sweet beautiful Wynonna! She who lives the most extraordinary life.
She’s been to 16 states.
She’s seen most of the Rocky Mountains, a chunk of the great Smoky Mountains. She’s seen (and ran from) the ocean.
She’s gone from deserts to corn feilds to rain forests and all the shitty truck stops in between.
She learned that dogs can in fact, not, breath underwater. But she loves to climb the rocks above a rushing river.
She has gone to the Roswell alien museum, the Florida state caverns, and the oldest ruins in North America. She’s wondered a zoo in the middle of downtown Chicago and she’s frolicked through miles of open fields.
She has fallen in love….a LOT. Like, a lot a lot.
She’s eaten many a fancy thing. From freeze dried quail to turning her nose up at fresh caught trout.
She’s been to many a drum jam, seen her beloved humans let loose under the endless sky. She thinks we’re all strange but that’s what she loves about us. She’s seen us dance with fire and laugh until we fell over. She’s seen us paint our faces and adorn ourselves like living altars. She’s seen people with horns, tails, wings, hooves.
She’s gotten 2 reiki attunments. And taken part in many rituals.
She’s sat on the laps of at least a hundred people while they received oracle readings.
She’s seen 9 different renaissance festivals. She went to work with me at a very electric state faire.
She’s lived out of our car, in a huge canvas yurt tent, in an a-frame house, in a couple of regular tents, a remote homestead, an urban townhouse, a little blue trailer in the woods, a 115 year old cabin, and now our beloved rv. Which is really just her pent house that i drive around.
She has developed a love for shredded cheese and french fries.
She loves to play fetch, and will happily bring you that stick back for you if you throw it for her.
She loves to walk around ontop of tarps just to hear the crunchy sound it makes.
Of course I have to mention her smile. Which is part of the light and joy of my life. She smiles with her mouth closed. Or sometimes, if she’s really trying to get what she wants she’ll smile with all of her teeth all at once. Grinning from ear to ear.
She’s learned, so fucking much. She knows how to sit on my shoulders and on my back. She knows English incredibly well. She’s learned things like “consent is sexy” and “be cool”.
She has laid on me to ease my pain, she has comforted me when I felt hopeless, she has kept me warm on the coldest nights.
Wynonna has brought love, laughter, healing and silly sloppy little kisses to everyone she’s met.
Who in return have sung many an original song inspired by her sweet love.
I asked the universe for her and was given the most beautiful blessing. Being the provider of a beautiful, happy, healthy life for this little dog has changed my life for the better. I am so grateful for her it is almost impossible to truly express.
Thank you to everyone who has loved, played with and helped me with Wynonna. She is who she is because of the way her community has loved her. I am forever grateful.
Happy 2nd birthday, my sweet little love. Here’s to many more adventures to come!
